Mark Chamberlain

Mark Chamberlain is the President and one of the founding partners of Trivaris Ltd., a commercialization company focused on transforming ideas from concept to sustainable companies and social enterprises. Investing in and growing early-stage companies, Mark strives to create businesses, jobs and a culture of innovation under a Trivaris brand that is ‘not just for profit’.
Mark is best known for his time at Wescam where he became President and CEO in 1987. Under his leadership, the company quickly became a leader in visual information systems markets around the world and highly recognized with many awards including and Academy Award for Technical Achievement, 16 Emmy Awards, a Canadian Business Tech Award, and a Canadian Export Award. Wescam was also names one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers in 2000 and 2001. In 2002, Mark sold Wescam to L-3 Communications and after assisting the company through the ownership transition, Mark retired from L-3 Wescam in 2003.
As an accomplished and proven entrepreneur, Mark brings his business acumen to community economic development in general and social enterprises specifically. Initiatives like Option for Homes, a non-profit group providing quality, affordable housing in Hamilton and Halton, enabling families to enter into home ownership when otherwise not possible.
Mark served as a member of the Board and Chair of the Commercialization Committee of the Ontario Centres of Excellence for six years; served seven years on the Board and two years as Chair of the Hamilton Community Foundation; served six years as Chair of the Hamilton Roundtable for Poverty Reduction and was recognized with the Hamilton Distinguished Citizen of the Year for 2007 for his work on reducing poverty in Hamilton and was appointed to the National Council of Welfare, an advisory body to the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development on matters of concern to low-income Canadians. In 2010, Mark was inducted into the Hamilton Gallery of Distinction. He currently is Chair of the Hamilton Jobs Prosperity Collaborative, Chair of the Innovation Factory and a member of the McMaster University Board of Governors.
Mark was born in Toronto. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree (BASc) and a Masters of Applied Science degree (MASc) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and received their Alumni Medal in 1999. Mark has been recognized with the 2001 Ernst & Young Ontario Entrepreneur of the Year award in the Technology and Communications category; the 2001 National Entrepreneur of the Year Special Citation for Market Leadership; a Professional Engineers of Ontario Medal for Entrepreneurship in 2004 and was inducted into Burlington’s Entrepreneur Hall of Fame in 2006.
