Dr. Ludvik Prevec
Dr Prevec was born and raised in the gold-mining town of Kirkland Lake. He obtained a B.A. in Physics and Geology from the University of Toronto and then switched fields to molecular biology, obtaining his M.A. and PhD in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia before coming to the Biology Dept at McMaster. For 30 years he taught Virology, Immunology and Molecular Biology and did research on the molecular biology of viruses. He has over 50 refereed publications and six patents. Eight of his graduate students have gone on to productive work in virology or molecular biology in Canada
Dr. Prevec has served on the editorial boards of ’Virology’ and ‘the Journal of Virology’. He was a visiting scientist at the Institute for Virology in Glasgow, Scotland and in the Dept of Microbiology at the University of Ottawa.
In retirement he has renewed his interest in fly fishing and in the mineral industries of northern Ontario. He holds a permanent Ontario Prospector’s Licence.
