Dr. Christine Wison
Christine Wilson received her B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Toronto in 1984 and her Ph.D. in Astronomy from the California Institute of Technology. She spent two years as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Maryland before joining the department of Physics and Astronomy at McMaster in 1992. She is internationally known for her research into star formation and the interstellar medium in nearby galaxies and has been the recipient of a Women’s Faculty Award and a Discovery Accelerator Supplement Award from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, as well as a Premier’s Research Excellence Award from the government of Ontario. She is also in demand as a public speaker; she was one of ten “Galileo Lecturers” in Canada during the International Year of Astronomy in 2009 and delivered the Ruth Northcott public lecture at the General Assembly of the Royal Astronomical Society in 2011.
